For another one of my cultural events I went to the Currahee Military Museum in the Library. It was the center for public history of university of west Georgia who brought this exhibit. It was here to teach more about World War II and The Cold War. The real Currahee Military is in downtown Toccoa which is a part of Georgia. I learned that the name “Currahee” is from a Cherokee Indian meaning “stand alone” and is the mountain where camp toccoa, WWII training facility was located. I learned allot of facts such as there were 17,000 soldiers who trained at camp toccoa during WWII, which is the birthplace of the band of brothers, saving private ryan, and the dirty dozen. The museum or exhibit that was in the library just was a few pictures captured of small town Americans in World War II. In the real exhibit there are stables that housed these soldiers. The stables were built in England in 1922. They only had a couple of pictures I got a few, but they just had basic info on the pictures nothing in depth. This place was re-assembled in Toccoa and dedicated October 7, 2005, to the men and women who have served on foreign soil in all wars in defense of the United States.
